Derbyshire Dales nominates Ed Milliband

At a meeting held on Tuesday 13th  July 2010, the Derbyshire Dales CLP members nominated Ed Miliband for leader of the Labour Party.

The meeting consisted of members reading literature put forward by each of the leadership candidates, an hours debate and discussion amongst members and supports and, finally, a secret ballot.
The ballot was a single transferable vote where candidates are ranked in order of preference from 1 to 5. Votes are distributed to each candidate with the first preference vote and the candidate receiving the lowest number of first preference votes is eliminated. In round two the eliminated candidates’ 2nd preference votes are distributed amongst the remaining candidates. This continues until one candidate has 50% or more the vote.

The results were as follows:
Round 1
Diane Abbott – (7.5%) Eliminated
Ed Balls – (7.5%) Eliminated
Andy Burnham – (13%)
Ed Miliband – (49%)
David Miliband – (23%)
Round 2
Andy Burnham – (17%)
Ed Miliband – (58%)   Nominated
David Miliband – (25%)
Number of spoilt papers: 1
Number of postal ballots returned: 13
