About

The Derbyshire Dales covers 800sq. kms (about a third of Derbyshire) and has a population of  approximately 69,700 people. It has four market towns: Ashbourne, Bakewell, Matlock and Wirksworth, each serving large rural catchments. There are also over 100 villages.

The Derbyshire Dales is one of Britain’s most scenic areas. It includes much of the Peak District National Park and yet is situated within two hours drive of almost half the UK population.

The Derbyshire Dales is the biggest of the ten constituencies in Derbyshire. The Derbyshire Dales Labour Party currently has four District Councillors and the Labour Party is the second party on the Derbyshire County Council.

Due to boundary re-organisations, following the general election in 2005, it was decided that the parliamentary seat of ‘West Derbyshire’ would change to ‘The Derbyshire Dales’ at the next general election. The substance of this change will see the loss of two towns, Belper and Duffield.

The West Derbyshire Constituency Labour Party disbanded on the 31st December 2005. The new Constituency Labour Party of the Derbyshire Dales was established on 1st February 2006.

A change of name and some new eager members gave the CLP an opportunity to reinvigorate itself. With increasing participation of members, a new enthusiastic office and  fresh outlook, the Derbyshire Dales CLP is now more determined than ever to work hard and become the force for change in the constituency.
