When you join the Labour Party you automatically become a member of your local Constituency Labour Party (CLP) which covers the area where you live. Each Constituency Party has a regular meeting and each member will receive a quarterly newsletter from the secretary.
The meetings offer a good opportunity to meet other members and to take part in various policy debates and discussions. The CLP takes part in the party’s policy making process by means of various motions passed at branch and constituency level and by means of regular policy forums.
As a party member you can:
- Vote for your local and parliamentary candidates and the party leader
- Help develop the next general election manifesto through local policy forums
- Take up the opportunity to serve as a school governor, magistrate or councilor
- Take part in social events and fundraising activities to help support local and national campaigns
- Get involved in campaigning work to help Labour win local and national elections
- Attend the annual Labour Party Conference as a delegate for your CLP
If you do not wish to join, but want to help and support your local Labour Party, please contact us. Any help, big or small is greatly appreciated.
You will not be asked to commit to more than you intend.
