Election Thanks

May 10th, 2010 DDCLP No comments
I wish to say a huge thank you to every single person who has supported me throughout the general election campaign, encouraged me and passed on their ‘well wishes’.

I huge thank you must go to those people who put up posters, placards and, particularly, to those people who helped on the ground with leafleting and door knocking. Every single person who contributed was valuable to the campaign and your efforts, big or small, are extremely appreciated. And finally, thank you to everybody who put trust in me and voted for me on the day!
Despite coming third, I can say with absolute conviction that the Labour Party team put in the most work, covered the most ground and were the most determined team in the Derbyshire Dales. If the election was based on effort and hard work, we would have won.

There are too many people to individually list and thank. We were absolutely overwhelmed by the number of people who cam forward to help from inside and outside of the party membership. We are indebted to each and everyone.

We may be defeated, but we are still defiant.
We will continue to strive to improve the lives of local people, working for the benefit of our local communities and fight for Labour values and beliefs in the Derbyshire Dales.

I have received a phenomenal amount of messages since the end of the campaign, but unfortunately so many that it has been almost impossible to reply to each one individually. I apologize, but I have read and appreciate each message.

Once again, thank you to everybody for their continued friendship and support, not just throughout the campaign, but throughout the years as well.
Best wishes,
Colin Swindell

Ripley and Marehay By-Election Success

September 21st, 2009 DDCLP No comments

The Labour Party’s winning streak across Derbyshire shows no sign of slowing-up with another victory in the neighbouring Amber Valley Constituency.

The Borough Council ward of Ripley and Marehay came up for election due to the sad loss of Labour Councillor Geoff Carlile. Lyndsay Cox, a Ripley Town Councillor, fought the seat for Labour and achieved a 12% swing from the Conservatives to Labour.

The good news builds on the recent success in the Derbyshire Dales when Labour took a seat from the Tories with a 20% swing and, further afield, Labour gained a City Council seat from the Green Party in Leicester.

Commenting on the by-election result Colin Swindell, Labour PPC for the Derbyshire Dales, said:

This is a fantastic result and very welcome news. I was there on polling day door-knocking and helping Lyndsay’s campaign team to ‘get out the vote’. You could sense the team’s determination and enthusiasm and it certainly paid off.

I am sure that everybody would like to join me in congratulating Lyndsay Cox, her campaign team and the Amber Valley CLP on their well-deserved success. No doubt we will all celebrate together with a few drinks in the East Midlands Reception at the Labour Party Conference later this month to toast our string of victories.

The fight back across Derbyshire is well and truly underway!!
